Removing Stains 101: Blot, don’t rub!
To remove a stain from your carpet dab the stain with a cleaning solution and a clean cloth or paper towel. The key is to blot–blotting puts the smallest amount of pressure on the stain and causes it to soak up the stain. Conversely, rubbing the stain will cause the particles to get ground into the carpet fibers, not only causing the stain to set in, but also causing a premature breakdown of the fibers. Lastly, you want to remember to start blotting from the outside of the stain. Doing so will help keep the stain contained to a small area.
